The painting "Face" by Max Horst Sokolowski is a portrait with large, staring eyes. The background is a solid red, which contrasts sharply with the pale skin of the man's face. The painting is very stylized, with simplified shapes and bold colors. The man's face is almost mask-like, with no details to individualize him. The red background is also very flat and uniform. This lack of detail gives the painting a somewhat abstract feel. Ultimately, the meaning of the painting is up to the viewer to decide. However, there is no doubt that the painting is a powerful and thought-provoking work of art. Here are some additional thoughts on the inspiration and mystery of the painting: The large, staring eyes of the man in the painting could represent his inner turmoil or his deep desire to connect with others. The black mask could represent the man's attempt to hide his true self from the world, or it could represent his ability to see beyond the superficial. The red background could represent the passion and intensity of the man's emotions, or it could represent the danger and chaos that he is facing. The painting is a mystery, and it is up to each individual viewer to decide what it means to them. However, there is no doubt that it is a powerful and thought-provoking work of art that can spark a variety of interpretations.

Australia
Max Horst Sokolowski is a highly trained & full-time contemporary Australian painter having completed a Master Degree at the European Academy of Arts in 1997 who generally paints under the name Max Horst. Exploring the nature of people and the relationships between them, Horst’s paintings are very often short stories of small, daily moments of life. He distills these relationships through simplified forms and shapes, developing his own code of symbols - a code which is constantly changing and developing over time. In his quest for simplicity and honesty, Horst draws much of his inspiration from cave paintings and naive art, “because I find them very honest as a form of art”. The viewer can sometimes sense the presence of elements of Aboriginal art in Horst's work. Using oil, acrylic, watercolour, gouache, he may mix them with drawing techniques. Natural pigments of earth colours are the base of Horst's palette. With an intuitive preoccupation with colour, form and line, Horst’s work belies a carefully considered composition and an appreciation of the nature of human interaction. Horst’s work is held in private collections throughout Australia and overseas.
