About The Artwork

One of a series of works inspired by the poetry of Hafez and Rumi. I hope viewers will see the window as the way to and from the world that she knows. It presents an opportunity for freedom. Fire, love, passion and power are embraced by the depth and richness of colour and the fabric twists and turns to represent all the complexities of life. Much smaller, the delicate white satin represents both peace and tranquility. The window itself is embossed with broken butterflies to reflect the delicacy of nature and beauty of existence. The use of oil and acrylic allows a depth and richness of colour and the work employs the use of historic miniature Persian techniques made famous in the 14th and 15th centuries. The choice of subject matter allows for modern feminist expressionism using classical techniques.

Souren is an awards winning, professionally qualified artist specialising in Feminist Expressionism. Having graduated in Fine Art and undertaken Post Graduate studies in graphic design, Souren underwent further professional training in London. Her work with colours and inks have gained her plaudits around the world and she is known to have developed her own specialized color methodologies that make her works unique. Souren has always been a warrior. In her younger years she battled oppression and censorship taking on an authoritarian regime that endangered her life on more than one occasion. Because of her strong feminist views and her determination to resist persecution she was forced to flee her homeland and pursue her dreams elsewhere. In 2015 Souren moved to the US to become a resident artist in Miami. Her art, and photographic work, continues to be featured and sold around the world, but the US had become her home. Souren also devotes some of her time to being an art teacher/therapist and is an International Art Ambassador for businesses in Europe and the US. She is a renowned make-over and photographic artist and has developed specialised programmes in yoga art therapy, delivering them to both private and commercial clients as well as supporting young offenders and recovering addicts. "For me Klimt, Dali, Picasso and particularly Frida are my mentors…. not just the style of work but the way they lived and the influence they had on the art movement. I hope that each painting will seize the imagination of my audience and bring them closer to my own life experiences."
