About The Artwork
Part painting, part wall sculpture. Layers of laminated acrylic paint appear to float above and beyond the edges of a 16x20 inch white canvas. Large Lapis Lazuli stone beads, laminated iridescent sequins and metallic thread compliment the energetic brush strokes. This is the first in an ongoing series of “floating” abstract paintings. Sections of acrylic paint are laminated in strong flexible plastic. Then hand cut, and built up in layers like a collage, using miniature hardware to form the structure. By separating the paint from the canvas, I’m able to explore the nature of the medium in a unique way.
