About The Artwork
I went to see a local famous artist from Connecticut, David Merrill speak last weekend. I asked him what advise he would give for someone who has only been painting for a few years. He said to find what you love and paint it over and over again. Well I like painting flowers, so that's what I did here. I used a fairly large canvas (30x30 inches) with a black background to make the colors of the flowers pop. Was going for a happy, serene type vibe when I painted this.

I started painting late in life, approximately three years ago, after I had a conversation with my nephew, who was attending college for an art degree at the time. Dennis Collins, my nephew, is a very talented artist and I am a fan of his. He was nice enough to pass on in one of our conversations that his favorite art professor used to say that any painting is good and that you shouldn't worry about the outcome. It is an expression of the individual doing that artwork. After that conversation, I figured what the heck, I will go for it. So now my favorite thing on weekends, is to get up early in the morning, crank on my favorite rock and roll music and just go for it. I usually come out of a "painting frenzy blackout" - the good kind :), covered in paint after 3 or 4 hours, feeling great. I LOVE TO PAINT and am truly blessed that I found this passion/hobby.
