About The Artwork

Layered acrylic color on wood (black on white). Scratched with different types of spikes. The painting was part of the series presented at the solo exhibition MATEMA(N)TICA which was held in Rome between 5 November 2022 and 5 March 2023 at the Casina delle Civette, a museum of the Municipality of Rome and was visited by more than 20,000 people. The exhibition had the aim of divulging 21st century physics through paintings to invite as many people as possible to approach concepts of contemporary mathematics often considered too complex by ordinary people, myself included. You can find many articles about the exhibition on the web.

Herman Normoid I was born in 1966. I live and work in Rome, Sicily and Buenos Aires. I studied in the field of conservation of cultural heritage and collaborated with UNESCO. I place the Human Being at the centre of the artistic universe and I founded a philosophical movement known as “Volumism”. Despite recognizing a propositional value to the artist, I deny his having the leading role in the artistic process, ascribing it instead to the spectator. My artistic inclination brought me to develop a marked interest for “Action Painting” and for the use of pure pigments mixed with synthetic binders to form dense and thick colors, but the last years I worked on graffiti on board, derived from the classical graffiti technique used in the façades of the 15th Century buildings in Rome and Florence, and some of them were used for my latest exhibition (MATEMA(N)TICA. La scienza si divulga anche così) aimed at disseminating 21st century physics. My aim is to achieve a simplicity in the art that allows my art to reach as many people as possible, avoiding an elitist art. The graffiti have a primordial aspect that I have deliberately left to signify a continuity of the expressive means from ancient man to man of the future: the mind and the hand, the imagination do not change over time, but the results layering themselves make the history of art.
