About The Artwork
The inspiration for this painting was the mysterious, tiny ancient port of Gerolimenas, lying on a turquoise, transparent bay at the tip of the Mesa Mani peninsula in Greece. During the Turkish captivity, it was used mainly by Greek pirates and klefts, the warlike inhabitants of those Manic territories, who never fully surrendered to the invaders.
