Gone Tomorrow is a waking dream. One of a series of paintings meandering through the psychological potential of the urban sprawl. It follows Mackenzie’s painting practice of creating composite landscapes from multiple street shots. What is familiar and what is hidden? A shop front in a wasted landscape is now a brothel is now a portal. Where does the urban take any of us? Shit still left for shoes.

Mackenzie is an artist and actor. Born in Australia, he received his undergraduate degree in Fine Art from The Queensland College of Art in 2003. This was completed on scholarship at The Exeter College of Art. In 2005 he took a Masters in Acting at East 15 Acting School. His CV includes two solo shows and work as technical staff at The Queensland College of Art. Mackenzie's quirky, sometimes satirical and often allegorical work draws as much from the history of landscape painting as it does from carnival and protest and propaganda. With a practice traversing drawing, painting, text, photography and performance Mackenzie has explored (sub)urban dystopia, repression and body politics, capitalism, consumption and what these things leave behind... Artists of influence have always been idiosyncratic contemporary painters of the Asia Pacific, key figures in Australian landscape painting as well as El Greco, Hieronymus Bosch, Stanley Spencer, Otto Dix, Modigliani, Howard Arkley, Jeffrey Smart, Paula Rego and Nathan Taylor. He is based in London and has a studio in MotherX Studios, Hackney Wick. www.mackenziescottclowes.com
