From poetry to music, dark moods, thoughts and attitudes have impressed me in my youth and still do, on and off. My artistic practice contains equal amounts of dark works as fully colorful shiny works. At some point I could see color in the darkest black and white paintings and for some time did not need to use color at all. This painting titled 'Gothic' was made at the beginning of a period that I have titled 'A year black and white' which in reality lasted a bit longer than one year. The painting 'Gothic' is made with black and white pigments that I mixed with a binder and painted on strong cotton canvas, also self made. It is a quite intense work. It is in good condition and ready to be placed on the wall.

S. Kapnissi is a dedicated painter, focused on the truth that painting can reveal and thus give a life purpose to people; just like the sunshine does and the warmth of a real home. "My paintings depict the intensity of life; bright colors or black and white, abstract or figurative, my images point at Life and at our humanity that we evoke through beauty." S. Kapnissi (Athens, 1966) studied painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University in Greece and at the Free Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague, the Netherlands; for a period as a NUFFIC grantee. She is founding member of the Gaidaro group which from 1999-2008 presented projects advocating for wide participation in the art practice and presentation. Painting is her main activity which often expands to engraving, textile, video and text. Website: atelierkapnos.com
