About The Artwork

Titled 'Guided Tour,' this piece illustrates a girl astride a camel, being led through an expansive desert by an eccentric, bunny-like entity. This scenario mirrors my own childhood experience growing up in a foreign country. As a young child, I often found companionship and guidance in the array of toys and dolls that I collected, each one a trusted friend in an unfamiliar world. As I've matured, I've come to realize that sometimes the most unfamiliar figures can become our guides, helping us navigate through the complex terrains of life. The 'Guided Tour' embodies this realization, highlighting that the sources guiding us are often unexpected, and can be as fantastical as the lunatic bunny leading the way in the desert. It's a tribute to these unconventional guides and a reflection of my own journey, where the unknown has often become my most reliable compass. 'Guided Tour' was initially hand-drawn before being translated into the digital realm using Procreate for the painting process. The piece features numerous color layers, a choice that intentionally creates an unreal and slightly unsettling aesthetic. This color scheme underscores the unusual world the girl navigates, reflecting the peculiarity and discomfort often found in unfamiliar territories.

Iris is a Los Angeles-based artist, born and raised in Singapore and Korea. As a multidisciplinary talent, she brings an eclectic mix of experiences to her art, deeply influenced by her background as a design director for branding and illustration. Her work masterfully bridges the divide between traditional and digital realms. She begins with hand-drawn sketches, which she then converts into digital illustrations. These digitized drawings serve as blueprints for her paintings and other diverse mediums, creating a harmonious blend of the old and the new. Iris operates under the alternate artistic identity, 'Child Appetite'. The name draws from a Korean phrase, reflecting the belief that certain tastes and traits from childhood remain unaltered as we age. This notion fuels Iris's creativity and shapes her distinct artistic style. Her creations share a unified theme that evokes a vibrant, whimsical yet slightly melancholic feeling. They encapsulate the nostalgia of her childhood memories and the longing for a time gone by. Iris's dreams often mingle with these recollections, blending reality with unconscious imagination. This fusion of memory and imagination serves as the primary inspiration for her art, lending it a unique, dreamlike quality that sets it apart.
