Gunbarrel Highway Painting

The Gunbarrel Highway is one of Australia's most famous roads, in parts little more that a dirt track through the Australian wilderness. The highway stretched from Western Australia through to the Northern Territoy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunbarrel_Highway), it is isolated and rough, a challenge for even experience desert drivers. I spend time travelling in the outback and recording my experiences in sketbook and camera. This was painted in oils and in my studio at Perth, WA. As temporatures can be in the high 40 to low 50 degrees centigrade, the location this location was not conducive to Plien Air painting.
