About The Artwork
I fell deeply in love with La Bodegita del Medio, a charming and authentic place in the old town of Havana, where Hemingway used to drink his Mojitos. I love the graffiti all over the walls of that little bar, kept in place over ages and modified day by day by the local an traveling crowd that passes by. Going through those layers of writings on the walls while having a drink made me dream a good many times. In my painting "Havana", I try to reflect the atmosphere of this unique place where left overs of european colonialism meet with the cuban spirit and melt into a very specific joy of life. I choose for this painting a room divider made of canvas. In this way, there are many options to fit this small sample of "La Bodegita" into any room: in a corner, standing upright separating parts of a room as well as hanging straight on the wall.
