About The Artwork
I painted this after visiting Omiwa Shrine, the oldest Shinto shrine in Japan at the base of Mount Miwa, a sacred mounted in Nara. I used media collected from Mount Miwa, such as shrine candle wax, sacred salt, rice and mountain soil. I wanted to convey the heavenly divine energy I felt on the mountain.
