This is one of the only two big canvases I attempted in 2011. It is painted on a professionally stretched canvas bar with a 2 inch thickness that cold be hung right away. Black and white Amsterdam acrylic was used. This work laid the foundation for my later works based on overlapping lines to reveal images. The clarity of lines and contours also bring about my 2016 abstract works on paper. Improvisation takes years to master as it requires experience in skills and a confidence in application, not to mention the assimilation of proximity, repetition and contrast. It is so much like jazz musicians playing on the spot. This work carries on my improvisation approach as images and shapes were created along the way. I merely started with an idea of a spiral thing as a general composition. May I draw your attention to the many small designs within the circles all over. Each of them are different, just like what I did in 'Pollen and Plant' drawing. I liked to cross discipline by merging design into paintings.
