Lorna was born in the UK, raised in South Africa, and currently spends her time between the rolling hills of rural France, lakeside Canada and bustling UK. These strikingly different environments inspire many ideas, some of which are meshed together on a single canvas. While others run around her head and manifest in bewildering colours and applications. The vibrancy of London's easily accessible live music and theatre scenes, the rich character of Canada, the astounding French light and countryside as well as the ever-changing political climate in South Africa have influenced much of Lorna's work - culminating in a blending of cultures and experiences. Lorna mainly produces bespoke fine art pieces in oils, which have generally been her medium of choice, though she is also known to mess about with mixed media collage pieces with paper, acrylic, varnish and oils. She's been focusing on portraits and the female form most recently. Using photographs she manipulates the colour and composition of the original images to portray a new, more personal, meaning without compromising the original concept of the image - endeavouring to capture the relationship between a moment caught instantly in time and her interpretation of that moment developed with a brush over a period of time, such that the subjects are fluid in perception once on canvas. All of Lorna's work is based on her fascination with light: the effects of colour flares in low light and reflections on different surfaces in changing weather and light conditions. She studied graphic design in South Africa, worked with photographers and as art director of magazines in the news, features, lifestyle and travel markets. Lorna spends most of her time with painty fingers happily ensconced in the rolling hills of rural France with her ever-supportive partner and two cat apprentices.
