About The Artwork

Flying to close to the sun... chasing rainbows and freedom... liberation in flight... daring to dream... The myth and legend of Icarus lives on today as a cautionary tale of hubris and desire ending in tragedy.

My process of art making is intuitive, spontaneous, and trance-like - I will often “lose” myself and “find” myself at the same time. The journey becomes the destination. My belief is that art has the power to transform both the artist and the viewer, through a “transcendental alchemy”, towards a heightened awareness of the universe, and our place in it - a “cosmic connection” which gives our lives added depth and meaning. I have been been painting and drawing for as long as I can remember. As a child attending church services, I was mesmerized by statues, paintings, and icons, seen through the haze of burning incense. In elementary school, I was excited and deeply moved by an art appreciation program that introduced me to the study of art and art history. My continued interest in both science and spirituality inform my work. BIO: William Stamos has been painting and drawing for as long as he can remember.
