This beautiful vintage seascape has most definitely had a life. Its handsome gilded frame shows elegant signs of wear which add to the emotion of the piece. The words echo what I felt the piece would say if it could talk. If Lost Please Return To The Sea, is a comforting reminder that whatever difficulties we face; staring out to sea, most of us can’t help but feel even a momentary glimpse of gratitude, which is a powerful step towards wellbeing. Slowing down, stepping away from the digital world, taking time to be fully present in the moment. Our breathing shifts as we watch waves and wildlife and our attention is drawn from within ourselves to the outside world giving our minds the space to reset and, offering our nervous system the chance to rebalance as we connect with nature and.. art.

Annie Rob, AKA Painting in the Rude creates work known for its joyful celebration of re-invention, self-empowerment and an unabashed freedom of expression. Born in London to a free-thinking mother and a more seriously tethered father, Rob has always reveled in that dichotomy which echoes through the pieces she creates. Rob graduated Brighton University with a BAHons in Graphic Design and quickly advanced through the world of advertising, finding herself a Creative Director at 25. After co-running her own creative agency for 10 years she decided to escape the ‘dog-eat-dog’ world and concentrate on her own self-expression. Robs’ statements are often reflections of being a woman in a male-led world. Although, thought provoking, they take a lighthearted and cheeky perspective, reminding us to laugh at the bigger picture. An avid collector of vintage ephemera, Rob describes her approach to gleaning ideas from life as ‘beach-combing’, developing visual poetry from unexpected combinations and wordplay to create something completely new. Her work has featured in The Independent, Living Etc., Glamour UK, Stylist Magazine, The Evening Standard, Refinery 29, Tirade World and the Saatchi gallery ‘ones to watch’. She exhibits her work through The Other Art Fair and the Affordable Art Fair, where she is represented in the UK by Air Contemporary Gallery. Rob now resides in Los Angeles, but her East London roots are never far from her mind and play an integral part in the work she creates.
