In Every Moment Painting

Roslyn (Ros) Kee is a self-taught artist from Ireland working in contemporary photography and acrylic painting. She has always had a passion for art from her early days but while spending time abroad in her late twenties she discovered this passion was something she needed to explore in a deeper way. "Some of my earliest memories are of drawing and painting characters out of storybooks and being very contented for hours on end. Years later when travelling overseas, this love of art seemed to emerge again in a somewhat irresistible way. It started in Africa ...... maybe it was the people and their creativity or just being there that sparked something." On return to Ireland she further developed her experience in black and white photography before living in western Canada for 18 months. Canada drove the spark to flame and it was here that art became a serious focus for Ros. Back in Ireland she was drawn to the spectacular light and dramatically changing views of the coast of Donegal. The raw beauty and intrigue of this coastline both captivate and delight Ros, ready for the moment to hold her breath .... "There's a moment when I know the frame I have is right...I can't help but hold my breath before I shoot." Ros treats a camera as she would a paintbrush, using it as a tool to bring about an artwork. Perspective and composition create the beauty in an image, and this, Ros believes, can be captured almost anywhere. Her distinctive and engaging imagery reflects her great appreciation and respect for her surroundings. Ros still takes every opportunity to travel further a-field and thoroughly enjoys exploring new cultures and places. Her approach to photography can only be described as instinctive and spontaneous, she is ready in an almost subconscious manner seeing quickly a composition that will work as an image, even in the most unlikely places. "I let art reveal itself, and when it does I'm just ready to receive it, and hopefully harness something of its true beauty." Ros is able to see beauty and wonder in what many may overlook and consequently art is revealed in unexpected ways. She hopes she will always be ready.
