About The Artwork

This is my first testimonial, "political" work. I was inspired reading an article on Dr. Amy Goldberg, Chair of Temple's Department of Surgery at Temple University Hospital in North Philadelphia which treats gunshot victims. When I saw the photograph of a bullet she keeps in her office that she pulled it out of a patient's heart during her residency I was instantly inspired to paint it. I believe it's a very powerful image that summarizes in one image the horrors of gun violence. Quoting Dr. Goldberg, "The gun debate would change in an instant if Americans witnessed the horrors that trauma surgeons confront every day". I made her words mine.

Painting… in which the inner and the outer man are inseparable, transcends technique, transcends subject and moves into the realm of the inexorable. I live naturally and instinctually in that realm. As a boy, I would draw, I would write stories and I loved woodwork class at school. Later on in life, as an adult, after a period in the world of architecture, I got "married" to the cinema for many years as a film director. Four years ago, I decided to get “divorced” from the cinema to spend time exploring my new great passion: painting. Choosing the brush and dipping it into paint is one of the greatest delights for me. It’s like shouting "Action!" when shooting a scene on set. I am creating worlds on a sheet of paper or on a canvas. The strange conflict that often emerges between what a painting visually appears to be and what it actually says is a total wonder for me. This completely enthralls me. The set of colors, the superposition of the shapes, angles and immediate compositions create multiple visions. I am creating reality from several angles and points of view. I'm a turophile.
