About The Artwork
The work depicts La Plata Peak (a tall mountain in Colorado) seen from the southern side of Mt. Elbert. It was a sunny day, blue sky and cumulus clouds. The treatment of the subject is fairly realistic but there was no intention of photo-realism. The painting is oil paint on acrylic primed cotton canvas, stretched to the back of the supports and held to the stretcher bars with steel tacks. Since the canvas is primed on the sides, it can be displayed without a frame.
