About The Artwork
This oil on canvas is from the original international award winning Liberty series. In contrast to the others this one is small at 12 x 18 inches. However like the others it is gallery wrapped, the painted image is carefully extended around the outer edges, so additional framing is optional but not essential. The painting is supplied ready to hang with the necessary hardware. Painted on a smooth linen surface with fairly fluid brushwork that retains the almost smooth surface. The series was inspired by a photo shoot many years ago and just celebrates the freedom of swimming, hence the title Liberty.

I have long been fascinated with painting water and nudes in water. I find the reflective properties, the movement and the distorting qualities of water provide me with a wealth of challenges. I find that although my aim is always to produce a high degree of realism in my paintings I am constantly using sequences of abstract shapes to achieve an effect. "Peter's work has been seen around the world. In his paintings reflections of both classical and modern interpretations can be found. With superb and interesting techniques he infuses a harmony between natural realism and the painted surface creating subtle yet dramatic imagery. Influences can be identified from many periods of art history. In particular the realism of the late nineteenth century and the photo-realism of the twentieth century."
