Lightness of Being (Lekkosc bytu) Painting

Lightness of being was in Milan Kundera's eyes – as you know – unbearable.Agnieszka's painting has similar title, tries to notice in the lightness, airiness, fragility the manifestations of beauty. The artist places on canvas a pattern inspired by the colour of Chinese and Portuguese porcelain. With use of printing technique it may also be transferred onto silk and other fabrics with various degrees of transparency. Square cloth covered with traces of delicate brush strokes (each touch is like a time stamp) can obscure or just tint – like a filter – perceived reality with personal experiences. Such square can be just a picture or become a table-cloth, a piece of dress, a scarf containing our most necessary belongings. It could also be a sail helping us leave our lonesome island. From a distance blue spots look like feathers of an exotic bird, at close quarters one can see irregular boundaries of spilled paint.
