About The Artwork

The work was INSPIRED by the fact that I love to paint on linen. Then I continued on with the theme of love which resulted in my painting a painter who paints alover for herself. I hope VIEWERS WILL BE CHARMED by the half-painted man who punches his more figurative well-dressed arm out of the canvas while his abstract arm delivers a bouquet of figurative flowers on the topside of the linen, locking his painter in an embrace. The painter is comprised largely of various geometric shapes and has a river cascading down her arm from which a small goose drinks. The painter within the image, in turn embraces the painted canvas with the half-finished man on it. It looks like love to me! I hope viewers feel the love! The love that is all around us, and the lovely whimsy of a painter painting her own lover.. I also hope VIEWERS will adore as I do the many different forms of mark-making, ranging from the gestural and intuitive to the precise, in this painting. They all help to explore the theme of love. My favorite resultant images include the serendipitous blue horse in the middle right of the real canvas and the pink dog performing under a spotlight in the upper left of the painting within the painting. I did not consciously conceive them; they just appeared on their own out of the abyss that lurks within my painter's head. I love them and I hope viewers do too. TECH TALK I have combined figurative painting with abstraction in linen lovers. It seems to be a bit of a balancing act. I hope that this approach has enhanced my dreamlike imagery while at the same time keeping my focus on the paint, which is also kind of dreamy. I use Charvin acrylic pigments because of it's creamy consistency, vibrant colors. and versatility. The painted image of the lovers in the studio is carried onto the sides of the paintings, so it can be hung with or without a frame as the collector wishes. It comes with hardware and is ready to hang.

As a painter, I am an explorer, uncovering, recording and rearranging the beauty of the natural world, as well as the beauty of human beings. I select and distill the very essence of my subject, harmony between nature and humanity, sometimes combining the two. This symbiosis makes the finished work even more beautiful than either of its constituents alone. When you first visit my fantasy world, you will notice a lot of extraordinary things going on in my paintings. For instance, I might substitute a bird for a hat, or a butterfly for a bowtie. These unusual substitutions function as symbols and provide subtle clues and playful suggestions about my work. The shapes of birds and hats, or butterflies and bowties, are so similar that viewers never even question the replacements. I pick the substitutes because they fit graphically and visually. But it is more than that. We as humans fit with nature. We fit together so well, in fact, that I am able to paint a natural object–a butterfly–in place of the bowtie–and viewers can see this as truth. My world will refresh you with its vibrant colors, textures, and interchangeable shapes as you immerse yourself in the integration of nature and humanity. You will be at peace with yourself and at one with nature. You will experience nature in a totally new way and see beauty in places where you never before thought to look.
