About The Artwork

This piece is inspired by the feeling of not seeing the beauty of the world around you because you’re too focused the disaster in front you. It’s about our inability to “stop and smell the roses”. It’s about us being so focused on the bad that we don’t even make an attempt to see the good. My hope is that you walk away from this piece with the understanding that there is more to life than what’s in front of you. It’s not all good but it’s definitely not all bad. I want you to go find the good. “Stop and smell the roses”. I’m very intentional about the subject matter of my work. I chose to have this woman sitting in a room alone because a lot of times when we’re going through something we choose to be alone. The red in the abstract represents fire. So, she’s sitting alone in a burning room. There’s an open window that she can easily escape through but she doesn’t see it. Instead, she holds onto the flowers that’ll eventually burn with her. I’m a mixed media artist. I love to experiment with different mediums and I never want to limit myself. I go for what I feel. I love abstract art. It’s very intentional but also freeing, and meditative. I finish every piece with oils. I do this for depth, dimension, and butter textures that can’t be reached with the other mediums.

b. New York 1992 Lives/works: Lexington, SC. Medium: Oil and mixed media “EDEN’s work is structured upon the melding of abstract, surrealism, and figurative. She centers her work around the journey through trauma, healing, and growth, while having Black women, and children as the central focus. Her goal is to express her visual interpretation of life’s journey, as well as, amplify the voices of the silenced. She seeks to tell stories and show that things aren’t always as we perceive them to be. Her work touches upon subjects such as race, sexuality, mental health, human emotion, environmentalism, activism, spirituality, healing, and uplifting women, specifically black women, in society. She discusses topics that we would otherwise ignore daily basis. She creates what she feels. She creates stories. Both her own and those of others.”
