About The Artwork

I'm currently creating a range of large scale oil paintings of London. This one is of Watling Street that leads to St Pauls. I'm interested the summer mixed weather of London with its streaming short lived sunshine combined with wet pavements and those all important umbrellas. With enough light here to show more vibrant colours that sometimes give way to lighting that makes London look otherwise grey. I'm interested in the bustle of real city life. introducing aspects and persons whom keep it running. For instance the cyclist is a food delivery person. Its touches like these that I want to keep adding to my work. The edges of this painting are painted black. It can be hung as it is or framed.

My name is Hannah Bruce. I am a professional and award-winning artist based in Woking, England. Since 2002, I have been creating original artwork with mediums such as oils, acrylics, resins, ink, and pastels, and have sold my work all over the world. If you are interested in commissioning me to create something specifically for you then please let me know. Background Prior to becoming a professional artist in 2014, I was a Surrey-based teacher of Art and Design for over 13 years. I studied Fine Art and English at the University of Wales and completed my postgraduate certificate in education at the University of Cambridge. I was chairperson for the Woking Art Society from 2015 to 2018 and continue to participate in the committee creating exhibitions and pop-up shop events every year. I really enjoy painting the outdoors, in particular, the art of plein air painting, which comes from the French “en plein air,” meaning “in the open air.” This practice involves leaving the studio behind and painting landscapes on-site. I have helped to set up and collaborate with the Surrey Hills Plein Air Painters and have participated in events such as Norfolk and Norwich Paint Outs, Cambridge Paint Out, A Brush with the Broads, Art in the Open Ireland, London Plein Air Warriors, and occasionally with the Wapping Group and Royal Oil Institute friends. I have demonstrated for over five years with the Surrey Contemporary Art Fairs. I have been an active member of the Family Network Surrey since its inception, winning Business Networker of the Year at a national awards recognition event in Birmingham. What can I say? I’m a very social person.
