About The Artwork

I promised the girls we would go swimming but little did I know the tide was way out and there was nothing but mud for about 50 feet to the waters edge. 50 feet of horrible smelling tidal mud in San Francisco Bay...and yes this has happened before. Shaking my head I watched as they both plunged in the mud full speed and......sank. Laughing I watched them squirm until with a great sucking sound they popped out and then went plop plop plop all the way to the water. They then turned and looked at me expectantly as I was holding both their frisbees and after a few moments I resigned myself to it and plopped into the mud with them and decided to have a great time. That is until it was time for the ride back home during which the smell made my eyes water....then at home a couple of really really long baths only partially removed the smell of that mud. It would stick with us for a couple days but hey it was fun the girls had a good time and so did i...Thanks for looking

Matthew McDermott, b. 1981 NY, is an artist living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area. Mat struggles with mental illness and epilepsy on a day to day basis but has found his purpose in the creative arts in the form of painting, stained glass and custom woodworking. Prior to 2018 his work was available only through a commission basis and resides in private collections throughout the United States. In 2015 he was fortunate enough to gain a patron that funded the body of his work now available in his portfolio. "My artwork has become my only way to find myself again. Life is good when I'm painting and creating and I'm happy because I'm doing what I love. When things are bad I focus on the fact that my art is there waiting for me to get better and that it is something to hang on to when everything seems so horrible and normal life feels like a dream or a story that can't possibly be real."
