Manuka honey is produced by honey bees that collect nectar from the flowers of the manuka tree, found in the green and luscious hills of the North and South Islands of New Zealand, as well as Australia and Tasmania. The manuka flower only blooms for a few weeks each year, so there is high demand for a limited supply — and that’s why it tends to be more expensive. Manuka honey has what’s called MGO (methylglyoxal) content, which is a unique compound that is only found in this type of honey. This naturally occurring ‘magic ingredient’ is produced from high levels of dihydroxyacetone — a natural chemical that’s present in the nectar of manuka flowers. The higher the MGO rating, the higher the MGO content of the manuka. New Zealand’s honeybees get nectar from a number of different sources, including clover, dandelions, and some native trees. One source of nectar is the Mānuka tree (Leptospermum scoparium), which flowers during summer. Honey made from Mānuka nectar is thick, dark brown, high in sugar and has a distinctive flavour. Mānuka honey contains a mysterious substance called the Unique Mānuka Factor. The activity of the Unique Mānuka Factor (UMF) is responsible for Mānuka honey’s remarkable wound healing properties. Despite a lot of effort, scientists have still not worked out what the mysterious substance is that makes Mānuka honey so special.

Artist statement: I just create what I feel. There's not really much to say. Draw your own conclusions, just read the description and between the lines. I believe Warhol said it best: "Don't think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it's good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.” See more here: https://dwrartwork.wixsite.com/my-site https://www.cbaaartists.com/members-portfolios.html
