The artist in this work, through a veil of sadness that shines from the face, wanted to highlight the suffering of the famous woman appreciated mainly for her physical characteristics at the expense of intellectual and moral qualities. (Luigi Pilato captures the ironic sensuality of Marylin, an icon of our time, and reinvents it with his narrative but dry style, in which the cracks and abrasions of the recycled support on which he works seem to translate into the scratches and wounds that life he did non spare the American diva, underlined by the anguished gaze, by the shadows with which the artist's chromatic mastery pervades the face.) critic by Silvia Arfelli

Italy
Luigi Pilato was born in Salerno in 1965. As a child he dreamed about becoming a football player and filled whole copybooks with soccer scenes, drawing players in action and pitches in perspective with his biro. He needed no pencil for possible corrections. He started painting in 2012 and the following year he realized that his passion had become a need. Being away from the canvas would make him restless. He felt a strong desire to materialize the idea, the moment, the imagination on the canvas, thus satisfying his deep longing. Colour, vividness, beauty are goals every artist tries to achieve in his creations. Luigi’s reference-model is Impressionism, his idol Van Gogh. He has paid homage to the Dutch Master in several paintings. Many of his works, in fact, display a sharp and defined brushstroke, mixing and overlapping the colours straight on the canvas. He loves and paints both classic and modern, spontaneity and brightness being the distinctive traits of his art.
