About The Artwork

This artwork belongs to a new serie that I call "Natural Flags". They are landscapes of more or less abstract shapes on a white background because it represents a sunrise, a new way of seeing things, life. They represent as a kind of second skin for me, a skin as nature is for the Earth. It is inspired by the many menhirs that we have in Galicia, those stone monoliths standing on the ground. According to scientists, they could be like modern tombstones or monuments dedicated to some divinity. I have a theory that they would be like current advertising posts or signs, to indicate a warning. We could see another meaning, more poetic that unconsciously made these people raise the menhirs. To me it seems as if the earth itself was sticking out its tongue to tell us something, to soak in and speak to us. They would be an expression of the human being as part of a whole called nature and Earth. In the artwork we can see a figure of a woman in a cultivated area, perhaps a very cultured person, such as Rosalía de Castro, a poet with great sensitivity towards her land. She holds a piece of rope, which could be attached to the red globe or sun above. A balloon like a flare to get our attention. The whole scene could be summarized as a passing of stormy clouds that forget the importance of culture for the advancement of society, but it is also a song of hope for a new appreciation of it, a resurgence perhaps. not so much on a cultural level but hand in hand with sensitivity towards nature, because perhaps the first mission of art is to, like an advertising menhir, remind us that sometimes what is really important in life is much closer than we think. Frame no needed, but recomended.
