Metamorphosis Painting

This oil painting was inspired by Greek mythology, specifically the story of Apollo and Daphne. Daphne turns into a laurel tree as an obsessed Apollo chases her - that is an incredibly condensed version of the myth. If you don't know it I recommend reading metamorphosis by Ovid, there is so much you can take from these myths. This painting has been a wild ride and I've loved every second. I could type essays about every choice I made and every hidden meaning - but I always think it's fun to hear what other people think without my influence first. Here are two quotes from the myth of Apollo and Daphne that inspired this piece: “I who am chasing you am not your enemy. Nymph, Wait! This is the way a sheep runs from the wolf, a deer from the mountain lion, but it is love that is driving me to follow you! Pity me!” - Apollo “Help me father! If your streams have divine powers change me, destroy this beauty that pleases too well!” - Daphne
