About The Artwork

Sometimes painting is like being a conduit - the inspiration, the strokes, all come from something spiritual. So many artists admit that, if you let it, the painting will take over and turn out differently than the artist envisioned. It's like there is a river of paintings that flow just below consciousness; dipping down into that flow brings about paintings like these. It's like taping into a greater creator - in essence, we were all created by something, so maybe it's tapping into that creator, or perhaps it's tapping into your own creative DNA. I look at this painting, and I am not even sure how I painted it. It just happened. The photographic reference for this painting was a trip I took to Perito Moreno Glacier in Patagonia. The painting is named a Moment in Time because I was moved by how ancient this ice is and how unique it was at that particular moment that I took this photo. And most likely melted by now. There are so many Moments in Time that I would love to go back and revisit. I hope I appreciated them enough while they were happening—another reminder to live in and be thankful for the moment.

Jamie Lightfoot is an American fine artist known for her oil paintings which breathe light into their subjects. Her works explore themes of wildness, connection, and exploration, while offering a fresh look at the familiar. Whether it’s an elk stepping into a field, a woman walking down an empty ancient street, or a lonely ferry on the Puget Sound at dusk, Jamie’s works capture the longing of the soul and the beacon of light that calls us home and into our higher selves. Jamie’s work blends delicate realism and the expressive application of color and paint to create a look that evokes emotion, memory, and even a sense of mystery. Jamie was taught by regional artists specializing in impressionistic art and influenced by 19th-century masters such as Sargent, Zorn, and Sorolla. Jamie was mentored and individually tutored by renowned artists including Pam Ingalls, Cheri Christensen, and Henry Stinson. Jamie attended Gage Academy of Art. Jamie lives in the heart of Woodinville’s Wine District. She teaches a variety of art classes for kids, teens, and adults at Picket Fence Art Studio.
