Momento mori (which is the Latin for 'remember death') Is something as a society we try to avoid at all costs but which ironically is quite inevitable. Although the topic of this painting maybe considered as quite morbid there is however a very real sense that death is the only certain thing. This thought inspired this painting. There is a main figure that is surrounded by a yellow halo this depicts the living person, there are also figures that depict the the vanity of the earthly life and the transient nature of all earthly goods and pursuits going to work, meetings etc. With all momento mori works that have been carried out in the past there have been a couple of inanimate objects that have always shown up, namely; the hourglass - which I have depicted in the modern form of the wristwatch - and the skull. I have translated momento mori in several different languages as the topic affects us all.

Follow me on instagram: @artist_nadeemb (commissions available) Growing up in the British Northern town of Lancashire. My creativity was recognized and encouraged from a very early age, subsequently, I attended the Cumbria Institute of Art and Design. I carried on developing a passion for fine art and my initial training and self learning was in drawing, painting and sketching. I spent a lot of time looking at the works of Lucien Freud and Francis Bacon as well as impressionist painters such as Monet and Pollock. Within this period of mainly consisting of self learning I looked and studied intensely form both within the human figure and the form contained within inanimate objects. Being of Indian origin, artists such as Bhupen Khakkar, Gaitonde and Raza have influenced my work to some degree. I have taken on the cultural and traditional practices from a variety of art forms and acquired them through my own self-learning period of art. In the past three years I have started to develop more of a signature style using very expressive strokes and my inclination now is towards abstract form of line, colour and shape. I am searching for intensity, colour and energy within my work.
