Every formal aspect of a real picture with its smears, its pigments, its medium, its size, in front of you hanging on the wall is a mystery. One of the most peculiar aspect could be the signature itself the way the artist leaves his name (or not) somewhere on the right or the left at the bottom of the picture. What does it says about this person as an artist? As an abstract painter i can not think of adding such a strong formal object like the signature on a painting without it being the painting itself (so i leave my name at the back). Then thinking about the "signature" being the painting itself, i moved to make a signature-painting an actual painting which subject is a "signature". This -MUCHA- painting is some kind of draft toward this idea and maybe i will not go any further, but it allowed me to apprehend the strong formal and meanings implications of using an artist signature as a graphic item a motif in its own right.I approached it as if it was a real object, a thing, which is the way i see my abstract paintings, real by the "paint". I represent the way i can more or less clumsily this signature on the surface of a painting which whatever i do is bond to the field of "representation".The way the two are connecting is the interesting part. Then the question is : why Mucha?

"Dyslexie, dysorthographie, dyscalculie..." was what i used to hear when i was a child, which drove me to a "Libre école Rudolf Steiner" where i had a very good time learning and dealing with drawing, painting, wood working, knitting...in a very genuine way. It was never called :"ART", but who cares ? The topic back then had more to do with the Cosmos, vitality, energetic fields, rythm, grows, states of minds, of evolution, self-control, harmony and balance, elements that i kept in mind as i became an artist. Later, i got a BA and a MA of art from the royal College of Arts and design London (1989) but getting "on the ball" is another story. My first commitment was with sculpture in free open spaces. I moved then to abstract painting bringing this habit of "making things" in the process of painting. Recently i got acquainted to figurative painting for its political aspect, the need to respond in a more concrete way to our troubled times.
