This all original design and painting was inspired by my studies into cubist works of the classics like Picasso and Braque and more modern works like those of Joseph Catanzaro. I wanted to integrate a new element, a martini glass, and to do so in a way that invoked more emotion and to impart romance into the design. I rotated the piano from a previous work and complimented its curves with those of a cello placed behind it. I echoed both of those curves into the left of person outlines that blur between hair and a hand rested on the side of their face. The echo is again replicated in the linework of the table but it's more angular, the idea was to subtly flow from curves to angles from top left to bottom right, almost a progression. I played with my lines to make the meeting faces contribute to a unified central nose and abstracted face. I curved a few elements to impart organic/inorganic distinction and re-toned several color regions. I modified a few line widths and rewhitened elements to make them pop a little more. I charcoaled this on the canvas to get it started and intentionally left some of the dust on it in areas, the grit adds to the romantic appeal it has to me. This one got a lot of interest when I shared its photo with some friends, they all said it felt 'sexier' than my previous couple. I am very happy to hear that :D :D :D Palette restrictions are in place here from the last cubist piece I made and I'm sticking to it for a while -- grays, umbers, siennas, black and white, with the organic and musical elements getting the browns.

Artist and Engineer In 2004, Michael graduated with degrees in computer science and mathematics and has held multiple positions in software and systems engineering and technical management. When he was in his 30s, just before COVID started, Michael had a few significant life events that changed his life, his priorities, and his future. He went through a divorce, found new romance, was sick and hospitalized for a few weeks twice. During the course of these events, Michael was able to find his footing and rediscover old interests, hobbies, and passions. Namely, it was time for him to get back into art and music. Michael was enrolled in college again but this time for Fine Arts, Visual Arts (and will be completing his degree in the Spring of 2024). The rest is still being written... :) Favorites: Charcoal, ink, acrylics
