About The Artwork
My encounter with the North American urban life generated a profound impact in my perception of civic space. The way the cities are organized resonated with me: in a notorious difference with my country of origin, in which one can distinguish the central square of a city by the presence of public buildings, in North America that symbol is replaced by colorful billboards. This interesting priority is what gave life to EMPTY PROJECT (2015), based on the notion of consumer culture in Miami. In the past, the surfaces of color were a territory to summon the spirit. It is now that we encounter with an alternative meaning, which involves an elegant mechanism of attraction, a call for absolute loyalty in individuals. Hence, the harmonies, subtleties, and transparencies of yesteryear, turn into a violent and authoritarian chromatism, which does not intend to enrich the sensory experience of the individual or positively transform their living environment. The paradox presents itself: a void of meaning full of color.
