I have spent half a lifetime living in the Australian bush observing birds at all times of the day and night. I love silhouette paintings since first doing one of a woman hanging clothes on the line when I was in grade 4 as a child. I hope the wonder and beauty of dusk which in Australia is very brief touches someone who has experienced at least one stunning Australian dusk and a glorious sunset. I love gold and have much of it in my life. Working with leaf gold is a medium I have used often and it sits well with who I am. The drama of the black against the gold aided the 'shock' of disturbing the birds out of the thicket and into flight against the lustre of the golden dusk. Gold is glamorous and in this stunning modern painting that I had much joy painting and creating.
