About The Artwork
'Roma' is a nomadic character belonging to no particular group or place, but is firmly rooted to the earth. Many cultures have traditionally been nomadic, but traditional nomadic behaviour is increasingly rare in industrialized countries. The idea evolved as I painted her, influenced by the many festivals & parties I attended that summer, where id met many travellers/roamers along the way who inspired me. I painted a dress for her using my stylised butterflies aka nomads, the rest was purely allowing my imagination to run wild. Roma is painted with 4 layers of oil paint and the butterfly wings are mosaic'd with gold leaf.
