There is always a lot to learn from the great masters of painting, but everything becomes much more interesting when the relationship between the artist and the great painters in the history of art manifests itself as a colloquium, as a dialogue, as a kind of conversation with The deads. Thus, it is possible to take the work itself to a completely different dimension from rereading and copying. Picasso and several others experimented with this form of interlocution, in which one speaks to artists of the past through their work, theirs and ours. A member of the serious Colloquium with the Dead, in this case a colloquium with Paul Gauguin, and his work Jacob and the Angel, the theme of this work is time, and the pain of time; this time of ours, contemporary with pandemic, war and extremism; a time when the stupidity of humanity seems greater than ever. On screen, apparent abstraction hints at the drama and tragedy of our existence; however the small bovine placed above on a red field adds elements of satire and irony. Painted in oil paint on cotton canvas, mounted on a wooden chassis, the work is ready to be mounted on the wall.
