I wanted to do an homage to sitting, but finishing this painting, I saw that the quiet classical balance of my last two painting has given way to a spiderweb-like complexity. For me what saves it is the galaxy-like reflection on the seat of the chair. By sitting, I don’t mean sitting mindlessly in a café, but rather taking a seat purposefully every day to watch the mind. By watching the mind, I don’t mean following the content of thought, what so and so said about me, roleplaying how I will deal with this future occurrence, "rewriting" how I responded to those past events. This is what we do constantly with our mind and need no encouragement. I mean rather watching the underlying processes of the mind, where thoughts come from, how they remain while remaining, where they go when they leave, and what their essence is as we are having them (all trick questions). The benefits of doing this for me have been encouraging. Early on one sees how riddled with thoughts we are, constantly bombarded without respite. At some point in watching, one becomes aware that everything is made up of thought, or these little mental phenomenon, or mental packets. Our awareness of our body is mental packets, our awareness of our parents and children, friends, loved ones and even enemies are mental packets, any perception of physicality is mental packets, in fact our whole day and whole life are just made up of nothing but mental packets. This awareness profoundly affects the way we proceed. So this painting is my feeble homage to that process.
