When beginning a painting there is only a general idea of what the work will be. Most start as a rough sketch and as new lines are added, new forms are suggested and then adjustments are made to find the paintings composition and final subject. I prefer that paintings develop on their own. Nothing is ever really painted out. Instead as the painting evolves, there are various layers added to create depth and the figurative effect of being pulled in various directions, ending with a sense of peripheral movement. I prefer not to try and impose anything each painting has its on rules.
