About The Artwork

“Omen” (oil on linen, 200x180 cm, 2016) represents a tribute to a human being in modern times who seeks salvation from the lethargy of the modern digital age. Religion is one of the ways to escape from the harsh reality and this painting, inspired by the Baroque religious art, depicts one such sacred moment. The picture represents a human being in the moment of despair, looking at the sky, looking for salvation from God. The image is inspired by Baroque art and the details are taken from most frequently used scene in Baroque painting that represents a moment of repentance, despair and expectations. The focus is on the psychological moment and the details in this image are reduced, with calming colors, showing a face of modern human without a clear indication of gender. The image is called “Omen” because it is a phenomenon that often indicates the occurrence of the change. People in the ancient times believed that omens contain a divine message from their gods.
