About The Artwork
Watching a blue moon come up over Puget Sound last February launched the idea for the painting. The moon of course appeared not blue, but as a deep orange being colored by the setting sun sinking over the western horizon. I was playing with walnut ink at the time...enjoying its lush color and runny qualities on canvas. It seemed to form trees and then it was an easy jump to imagine one of my favorite birds hunched over the water sampling his reflection. A contemplative arrangement that one might not see more than "once in a blue moon"..
