About The Artwork

Optimism takes on shape, color and form.I started this painting on Feb 11, 2020, the day WHO gave this virus pandemic its official name Covid19. I recall reading about this, without giving it any serious thought. The painting process was slow and in spurts, its progress coincided with the progress of Corona, as the seriousness of the virus became evident, with the world undergoing a complete, and catastrophic change. The artwork was finally completed on March 25, the first day of the official lockdown in India. By then, the smell of death was everywhere, and I changed the title from Flowers of Arcadia to Optimism in times of Corona. I think I changed the title mostly to offset my own fears, to deliberately cultivate a sense of hope at a time when all around was a feeling of hopelessness. The painting process, the color palette did help in creating a sense of optimism despite the widespread gloom. Received a nomination by Indian Council for Cultural Relations- Government of India. Was selected for a private Corporate Art Show in the London offices of Kroll between 2022-2023 The heavy impasto, vibrant colors makes this piece striking and colorful
