About The Artwork

This painting began as a portrait; every leaf, insect, and living being within it carries a profound psychological significance. They depict a phenomenon every individual encounters – self-delusion. A perceptive observer might discern the portrayal of a grand female face, yet it might ultimately amount to nothing more than self-delusion... The protagonist is fictional, the situation contrived, but the natural backdrop is real. However, the degree of reality versus fiction will be unique for each viewer. I worked on this piece for two years, and the initial sketch (in a sketchbook) bears little resemblance to the final result. This is because self-delusion grows, evolves, and undergoes transformations over time, much like every natural phenomenon. The idea came to me during the liminal state between sleep and wakefulness, while I was grappling with a high fever during a severe bout of flu. Lazy streams of thought from my fevered mind spiraled around the core concept: just how much self-delusion is entwined in human relationships, and how much does it obscure behind its facade? Self-delusion is a beguiling companion, weaving its intricate tapestry in the corridors of our minds. It often masquerades as protection, veiling uncomfortable truths in its comforting embrace. We convince ourselves of half-truths and plausible scenarios, constructing a deceptive mirage that momentarily eases our doubts. Yet, the journey towards self-awareness involves peeling back the layers of this illusion. The true courage is to confront the reality beneath self-delusion.

I was born and raised in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Since childhood, I engaged in equestrian sports and pursued art. A nurturing influence came from my nanny, an artist herself, who taught me to draw and encouraged extensive reading. She gifted me books on every occasion, each adorned with heartfelt notes on their flyleaves. Initially, I decided to pursue a degree in journalism. However, my enthusiasm waned after a disappointing experience during my first practical stint at a newspaper. I left Saint Petersburg State University and enrolled at the Institute of Culture and Arts (St. Petersburg State University of Culture and Arts), majoring in Art History. In my third year, I made the bold decision to move to Israel, embarking on this journey alone. Nonetheless, I completed my studies at the institute and even began crafting a doctoral dissertation centered on "The Formation of Israel's Art School in the Context of National Self-Consciousness Evolution." In 2019, I made Israel my permanent home and established my own art courses for both adults and children. Here, I teach much like my nanny once did, striving for comprehensive education, fostering individual growth, nurturing freedom of thought, and igniting ambition in creativity. I cherish my profession; during evenings, when tranquility descends upon the studio, I revisit my cherished painting themes: nature and psychology.
