About The Artwork
I observe this family of horses each day from my house in Scotland. I love the dramatic patterning of their coats and also the way they bond and communicate as a family. I want to convey the closeness between the different age groups, with the yearling and the foal standing behind the strong shape of the mare's shoulder. These semi wild horse have immense dignity and independence, and it is fascinating to see how they interact as a species. The black and white shapes of their coats and manes and tails is visually very striking. I am interesting in taking this subject to a more abstract level without losing reference to the horses.
