Luis Altieri was born on 9th July 1962 in Buenos Aires. He received a vast training in life drawing at the Asociación Estímulo de Bellas Artes, and later on he studied art in the workshops of Carlos Terribili, Carlos Tessarolo and Víctor Chab. He has held numerous collective exhibitions in Argentina and abroad, and has held over thirty solo exhibitions, including an itinerary show that took him to many parts of the province of Buenos Aires during 2007, visiting museums and cultural centers. In 2008 Luis Altieri acted as a member of the Argentine committee for “Kunst 10 Daagse”, 10 days of Art, Bergen, Holland. During 2009/2013 he held exhibitions in Argentina and Uruguay. 2011 - “High Frequency”, Centro Cultural Recoleta, halls No. 1 and No. 2. 2012 - Palacio Duhao, Buenos Aires, Argentina. His characteristic style consists in the expressive quality of color and the playful use of shapes, which derive from a very rich imaginary universe. His paintings call for contemplation, a poetic attitude from the viewer - free from all conscious acknowledgment or interpretation. A moment of playful contemplation. Power and matter in the work of Luis Altieri "In the words of Mircea Eliade, only artists understand that a true beginning can only come after a true ending, and only artists have decided to truly destroy their world in order to create an artistic universe in which human beings can exist, devote to contemplation and day-dreaming. This is particularly true in the work of Luis Altieri, an artist who is in a constant search full of recurring questions rather than answers, because he is suspicious of formulae. His work is energy turned into matter. It tells as about spiritual exploration carried out through shape and color, expressed amid poetry and metaphysics in totem-like images, letters, and stains that border figuration. In his creations, Altieri distributes color, the real protagonist. His work is a portrait of color that immediately catches the attention of the viewer. His style consists in his expressive strength, and in the power of shapes. Altieri's work is made of ever-flowing energy." Mariela Alonso Art History and Literature Professor, UNLP.
