About The Artwork

As I passed by on my bicycle and as we glanced at each other, I felt a sense of polarity, an emotion of empathy yet simultaneously that of desperateness. I was doing my thing and he was doing his. I was drawn towards the attempt to capture and emphasize this moment, initially I transcribed my memory's of the event through an ink sketch days later. It wasn't until some weeks later that I further developed the idea onto a bespoke canvas I made, because I had a specific size in mind for the picture, I had planned it to be of lifelike proportions and use a wealth of paint, to sculpt out the figure in the void created using a washed down color, which I call Putney Grey. I continued by substituting three dimension space by creating horizontals and vertical lines in the image very vague and broken down street attire, with just a glimpse at what could be some grey form of paving. I want the viewer to understand the moment I shared with this man, from my perspective. As you stand together and gaze across his side, you catch a glimpse of his lips and his nose, maybe an eye. As you stand together you start to wonder, does he have emotions to?, the void is all you will ever see of his thoughts, but he is a man, surely he must see the world just like you?

I paint for myself. Paint can only be paint, however hard it tries to disguise itself as anything else, it will always reveal its true nature as its form. The nature of paint is what sets it apart from all other, nothing can replicate nor mimic the paint, its ability to transcribe, reflect and respond, yet always speaking of itself. I paint for paintings sake and for the sake of paint, I will paint, nothing else will do. I studied fine art painting, thou my practise currently retracts from any notions of academia prerequisites or any pre conceived notions of image or concept. In painting I find my non verbal voice, which exists as a visual language, within its own terms. It is not something to be transcribed into words, it is a Language for the eyes and soul. My language forms as I wake, as I work, as I look, as I dream, as I study, as I gaze, as I walk as I be. My dialog with paint is constant, picking up a brush stoke here or a colour from there, I continuously add to my story. Constantly seeing and constantly feeling, my paint finally connects the two. I do not currently participate in exhibitions as I feel this distracts from my current working state. I have exhibited and sold previous collections. I have curated shows and am actively engaged professionally with the arts industry. I
