About The Artwork

A revamp of a piece from 2022, “Queenie” is stripped back in line with the ‘Exposed’ series and range. The humorous marks are a nod to the absurdity of the Royal Family, the tying themselves in knots and a breaking free from the rules of institution. This piece aims to show her sense of humour, and I hope she would be accepting of this if she saw it.

Born in 1989, Ellis King is a contemporary artist living and working in Norwich, England. King’s paintings focus on portraiture of women and merge bold, abstract displays of colour with fine, realist detail. Her unique style – which falls somewhere between realism and abstract – is narrative-filled, and hopes to redefine what it means to be a woman; to protest the ongoing gender inequality we have accustomed to and accepted as the norm.
