About The Artwork

I don’t think anyone ever wondered about the course of the rain, as if it was predetermined. Not having a course is something I cannot relate to, since I have always had one. Other’s aimlessness, however, I find intriguing. The worst thing a person can have is frustra- tion. What is this feeling, in which someone cannot control themselves? What a lack of charm to be dominated, especially by a feeling.

She started to draw in January 2014, greatly influenced by her parents, both artists, in order to materialize her thoughts. A year later, Sandmann Corte-Real started selling her first watercolor and coffee paintings in Baixa-Chiado (Lisbon). She did live portraits, seeking to feel up close the public that saw her art for the first time. She asked herself: can a work of art intensely mark a person? Valuing and selling art later allowed a seventeen-year girl to discover the world. She travelled through Europe with her drawing pad, looking for the biggest and grandiose art museums. She later decides to share her passion with children, by organizing painting classes, reflecting on them, and remembering her first steps. With her creative mind, Sandmann Corte-Real decides to create a collectible sugar packets campaign, with her paintings printed on them, since one of the main materials of her draw- ings was coffee itself. In 2020/2021, she develops her work choosing graffiti markers with bright and striking colors to paint on a blank canvas, creating through them a union of self-portrait and the world around her.
