Reflections III Painting

Tomas Hache's work searches in the line for its backbone. His themes and characters allude to fantastical stories that do not always try to tell us anything specific, but rather invite us to partake in them, discovering how his work continues with the viewer.

He creates a dynamic and symbolic base for his drawings and paintings through the use of mostly recycled basic materials including paper, wood and metal. These works act at times like purely geometric sketches with the purpose of releasing a materials possibilities no matter the simplicity of its current form, while at other times obsessively searching for the detail in the drawings projected over these surfaces.

His constant affinity to perspective and to geometric elements that coexist with robotic characters and personified animals placed inside of isometric scenes, would have us believe we are watching a board game where characters sharing spaces move themselves or stay immersed in their thoughts. Sad and solitary ghosts inhabiting majestic architectural elevations, labyrinths and castles become metaphors for a citizen in a metropolis who never feels that he is in control of his own life.

Tomas Hache desires to teach us the complexity of the soul who feels alone.

Through the simplicity of material and form, Tomas work becomes a search, a question, and an intention to reorganize our personal relationships, searching to find their meaning whether they are simple equations or chess moves. Or perhaps his work is simply a large entomological display case exhibiting stereotypes of the human condition as if pinned up with a needle by a collector.
