About The Artwork

I made this painting like a “Fresco”. It’s painted on sheets of Indian handmade paper, as rough as an unfinished plaster, laid on a gibbous, uneven wall: a wall of a poor house. Following the historical tradition of the “Fresco”, is an illustration, like those of fairy-tales, holding a mystical meaning and a didactic intent. “City-State” is the ideal place of the human society, as well as a moral and political warning. It’s a prayer too: philosophers and poets, athletes and homosexuals. India is a country stricken by powerty, disease, hunger and misery, governed by a corrupt holigarchy. But is a place where the Divine, the Mystical and the Natural make it possible to many people to withstand absurd living standard. This closeness existing among living creatures is something embarrasing to our own feeling of untouchable superiority. It looks like a continuous breach of private property. Insects, animals, birds, trees and people are in a natural relationship of mutual exchange, balance, overwhelming. Nobody knows who is the stronger. Perhaps nobody is. But there often is tenderness and compassion.
